📜 Timeline

Creation
Inarius + Lilith steal the Worldstone and create Sanctuary — a hidden realm outside the Eternal Conflict. The Nephalem are born.
~1,000 yrs before D1
Horadrim order formed by Tyrael. Mages hunt the Prime Evils across Sanctuary, imprisoning them in Soulstones.
~200 yrs before D1
The Dark Exile — Lesser Evils overthrow and banish the Prime Evils to the mortal realm.
Diablo 1 (1265)
Diablo possesses King Leoric, then the hero of Tristram. The hero drives the Soulstone into their own skull to contain him.
Diablo 2 (1265)
The wanderer (corrupted D1 hero) frees Baal. Heroes chase Diablo through Sanctuary, defeat Mephisto and Diablo. Then face Baal at Mount Arreat.
D2: LoD Ending
Baal corrupts the Worldstone. Tyrael destroys it — the explosion reshapes the world. Tyrael goes missing.
Diablo Immortal (1270)
Set between D2 and D3. Heroes hunt Worldstone shards across Sanctuary. New demon lords emerge.
Diablo 3 (1285)
Tyrael falls as a mortal star into Tristram Cathedral. Leah (daughter of Adria + the D1 hero) is possessed by Diablo. The Ultimate Evil storms the High Heavens.
D3: Reaper of Souls
Malthael — former Archangel of Wisdom — becomes the Angel of Death. Absorbs the Black Soulstone. Threatens all life. Defeated by the Nephalem.
Diablo 4 (1336)
Lilith is summoned back to Sanctuary by blood ritual. Seeks to make humanity powerful enough to resist both Heaven and Hell. Inarius returns. Both are defeated.
D4: Vessel of Hatred
Neyrelle carries Mephisto in the Black Soulstone to Nahantu. Mephisto manipulates and escapes. The story continues.

The Prime Evils

Diablo — Lord of Terror
Youngest and most cunning. Possessed Leoric (D1), the wanderer (D2), Leah (D3 ultimate form).
Mephisto — Lord of Hatred
Eldest and most intelligent. Father of Lilith. Escapes in Vessel of Hatred.
Baal — Lord of Destruction
Most wrathful. Possessed Tal Rasha. Corrupted the Worldstone in D2 LoD.

The Lesser Evils

Andariel — Maiden of Anguish
Guards Act 1 in D2. Betrayed the Prime Evils alongside Duriel.
Duriel — Lord of Pain
Guards Tal Rasha's tomb in D2 Act 2.
Belial — Lord of Lies
D3 Act 2 boss. Impersonates Emperor Hakan II. Most subtle evil.
Azmodan — Lord of Sin
D3 Act 3 boss. Led demonic siege on Bastion's Keep.

Tyrael — Archangel of Justice
Destroys the Worldstone (D2). Becomes mortal (D3). Becomes Aspect of Wisdom after D3.
Imperius — Archangel of Valor
Hates humanity. D3 Act 4 — briefly turns enemy. Carries Solarion spear.
Auriel — Archangel of Hope
Captured by Rakanoth in D3 Act 4. Her capture dims hope across Sanctuary.
Malthael — Former Archangel of Wisdom
Became Angel of Death in RoS. Absorbed Black Soulstone. Defeated by Nephalem.
Itherael — Archangel of Fate
Keeper of the Scroll of Fate. Rarely acts directly.

Deckard Cain
Last Horadrim scholar. "Stay awhile and listen." Killed by Maghda in D3 Act 1.
Leah
Cain's adopted niece. Daughter of Adria + the D1 hero. Possessed by Diablo in D3.
Lilith
Daughter of Mephisto. Co-created Sanctuary with Inarius. D4 antagonist — morally gray.
Inarius
Rebellious angel. Co-created Sanctuary. Returns in D4 as a fallen figure — D4 final boss.
Neyrelle
Young scholar. Carries the Black Soulstone in D4/VoH. Mephisto manipulates her.
Lorath Nahr
Last living Horadrim in D4 era. Mentor figure in D4 story.
